Optical orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (O-OFDM) has potential applications in long distance and high data-rate optical communication systems due to its capacity for adaptive dispersion compensation. This paper introduces the fundamental principles of O-OFDM and its state-of-the-art technology. Its major problems and future development will also be discussed.
