A novel cobalt ( Ⅱ ) complex [ Co ( 2, 2'-bipy )2 (NO3) ]2SO4 · ( H2O)5 was hydrothcrmally synthesized using 2,2'-bipyridine and nitric acid group as the mixed ligands. Its structure was characterized by IR, elemental analysis and singlecrystal X-ray diffractometry. Crystallographic data for this complex were as follows: It was a monoclinic system, with a space group of P2(1)/n, a=0.70932(9)nm,b=1.9528(2)nm,c=1.6841(2)nm,β=96.835(2)°,V=2.3161(5)nm3,Z=2,D=1.495g/cm^3,and Z = 2.The cobalt ( 11 ) ion is six-coordinated with four nitrogen atoms of two 2, 2'-bipyridine molecules,and two oxygen atoms from nitrate radical to form a distorted oetahcdral coordination geometry.
