Dopamine(DA),as one of the most important catecholamine neurotransmitters in central nervous system(CNS),plays an important role in regulating the motion, cognition, emotion, positive reinforcement, food intake, endocrine and many other functions of the brain.Dopamine is related to schizophrenia,Tourette’s syndrome, drug addiction, learning and memory deficits, attention deficit hyperactivity syndrome, etc.Numerous studies have demonstrated that dopamine plays a crucial role in regulating synaptic plasticity. The researchers adopted different receptor agonists and antagonists to study the functions of dopamine, especially after the five dopamine receptors were found, and they described the functions of dopamine more specifically in synaptic plasticity. This article summarizes the distribution and effect of dopamine and its receptors in the central nervous system, which provides the scientific basis for future research.
