Cultivating one＇s moral character, regulating the family and ruling the state is the base and mainline of the thoughts of suppression luxury in China. However, the ancients＇ understanding of the thoughts of luxury suppression tends to be within the category of concept and awareness, and lacks standardized, feasible operating strategy, implementation methods and tools. Besides, the ultimate success of luxury suppression policy depends on the supreme ruler and the ruling group. If government officials set a good example, the whole community can be influenced and habits of thrift will be formed. These luxury suppression thoughts and policy practice provide a good reference for us to promote low-carbon consumption and construct ving society at the present day
