A hydrostatic seafloor sediment corer which can be used to turn gravity and hydrostatic pressure into impact kinetic energy is proposed. The corer can sample the seabed soil in an impacting way. The impact velocity of its impact head is derived according to revelant theories, and an empirical formula of the impact velocity is summarized. The related tests have verified the correctness and rationality of the theoretical models of the inpact velocity of the impact head in the hydrostatic corer. In addition, three key factors affecting the impact velocity are discussed and some specific proposals to optimize the impact velocity are proposed.
