A new algorithm is proposed for 2-dimensional （2D） frequency estimation. The 2D frequency esti- mation problem is firstly transformed to the eigenvalue problem of two matrix pencil pairs. Based on the special structure of the matrix pencil pairs, a common set of eigenvectors of the matrix pencils pairs is obtained, which are applied to simultaneously estimate the frequencies in different dimensions and therefore the pairing difficulty commonly exists in current research is avoided.
