By using a light microscope with a digital microphotography system to study hemocyte morphology of the locust Catantops plnguis（Stal）, we found five types of hemocytes with different sizes and morphology, which inelud prohemocytes, granulocytes, plasmatoeytes, spherulocytes, and cystocytes. Prophemocytes belong to small hemocytes with a regular shape and a great nucleus to cytoplasm ratio. Granulocytes are medium sized hemocytes with a rather rounded shape, and are often congested together. The granulocytes are sometimes confused with spherulocytes in that they are filled with heterogeneous phagolysosome-like material. Plasmatocytes are also medium sized hemocytes lacking of a uniform morphology. Plasmatocytes have a large rounded nucleus and contain small granules inside the cytoplasm, and they may develop numerous pseudopodia and long and wide lamellipodia. Spherulocytes are large-to-medium sized rounded hemocytes that contain a small number of large inclusions （the spherules）. Cystocytes are large sized with round or oval shape, cytoplasm with refractive＇ particles or bulk material varied in size, the edge of the cells was smooth.
