The forthcoming patent cliff will greatly influence the global pharmaceutical industry. With the generic market becoming more grandness, the brand-name drug companies have begun to adjust their strategies for generic market. As a special type of generic drug, au- thorized generics have become important tools for the brand-name drug companies to take more market shares. Authorized generics could influence the pharmaceutical industry of China, however, the scholars in China are still at a beginning stage in the related research with limited available support from the theory and regulations concerning authorized generics, which, in themselves, are also very limited. By introducing the basic theory of authorized generics, we hope to provide some help for a further insightful and productive research.
