This paper presents a new generalized hybrid proportional averaging (NGHPA) operator, and then proposes a method for multiple attribute group decision making problems based on the NGHPA. The theoretical analyses shows that the NGHPA operator generalizes both the generalized weighted proportional averaging (GWPA) operator and the generalized ordered weighted proportional averaging (GOWPA) operator, and reflects the importance of both the given argument and the ordered position of the argument. Furthermore, we find that it is monotonic, idempotent, bounded and commutative. Finally, a numerical example is given to illustrate the validity and feasibility of the method proposed in this paper.
