Our initial sample consists of all firms, which listed on the Shanghai and Shenzhen Stock Exchanges from 2001 to 2010. We focus on two questions: how does bank discrimination influence the enterprises' profitability? And does shares system reform of the bank (the reform) decrease the discrimination and make difference on the enterprises' profitability? Empirical results show that, the difference between SOEs' (state-owned enterprises) and the NSOEs' (non-state-owned enterprises) profitability gradually become smaller, but after the reform the difference increased. We find that the difference between two types of the firms' loan cost and maturity is getting smaller after the reform, which caused the phenomenon. We conclude that the reform decreases the bank discrimination and has positive effect on economy.
