Cerebral white matter injury which can result in the myelinoclasis and the dysmyelination of nerve fibers is a major reason for leading cerebral palsy,mental retardation,and visual-hearing impairment.Recently promo-ting the inherent self-repairing potential of nerve regeneration tends to become an important strategy for the treatment of cerebral white matter injury.A new identified P2Y-like receptor GPR17 may probably regulate the inherent self-repairing potential after cerebral white matter injury.The paper reviews the anatomical features of the white matter,the biological characteristics of oligodendrocytes,and the possible role of GPR17 in the inherent repairing of cerebral white matter injury.
