The performance of cooperative communcation systems with opportunistic relaying and maximal-ratio-combining (MRC) was analyzed. Exact and closed-form expressions of symbol error rate (SER) and outage probability with Nakagami fading channels were firstly given. The analysis of approximate outage probability indicated that the diversity advantage was determined by the more severely fading channel out of the source-relay channel and the relay-destination channel.
