The Semantic Web is an emerging technology for the publishing and interlinking of data on the Internet, resulting into a global data network that supports more intelligent applications. Here, we briefly introduce the core concepts of the Semantic Web, and discuss the current status and future directions of Semantic Web applications in biomedical domain.
