In order to investigate the mercury distribution and compare the total and speciation mercury in different types of wetland sediment, a total of 67 sediment samples were collected from shellfish culture areas in Jiaozhou Bay and its surrounding wetlands, such as Hongdao, Huangdao, Jiaonan and Yinghai, Dagu River Mouth, Hetao, The reed in Nangong, Baisha River, from May 2013 to May 2014. The content of total mercury in the sediment samples was measured by cold atomic absorption spectroscopy, and the content of speciation mercury was measured by the method of sequential chemcial extraction. Results showed that the content of the organic matter in the surrounding wetlands was significantly higher than that in the shellfish culture areas ( P〈0.01 ), with the maximum mercury concentration appeared in Baishahe (28.72 g· kg-1 ). And the minimum concentration was found in Yinghai, with a value of 1.04 g· kg-1. There was no significant difference for the pH of these sediment samples between the two areas. There was no significant difference in total mercury between shellfish culture areas (0.037-0.228 mg·kg-1) and surrounding wetlands (0.027--0.088 mg·kg-1) in Jiaozhou Bay. The speciation mercury in sediment samples from the Shellfish culture areas and surrounding wetlands had the same distribution pattern: the proportion of residual fraction had the highest value, and the proportion of exchangeable and soluble fraction had the lowest content. The proportion of exchangeable and soluble, residual fraction in surrounding wetlands was higher than that in the shellfish culture areas. The proportion of carbonate, humic acid, readily oxidized organic and hard oxidized organic fraction in the shellfish culture areas was higher than that in the surrounding wetlands. The degree of potential ecological hazards of mercury pollution in the study areas was Hongdao 〉 Yinghai〉 Huangdao 〉 Hetao〉 Baisha River〉 Dagu River Estuary 〉Jiaonan 〉The reed in Nangong. The evaluation results of the potentially
