According to the communication route part＇s content of Cultural Route in THE ICOMOS CHARTER ON CULTURAL ROUTES,and the analysis of ancient books and maps of the Grand Canal,and the engineering characters of it,the waterway heritage system of the Grand Canal as a Cultural Route refers only to be the hydraulic work system itself with its adjunctive structure,and the buildingand management system of it.It includes channel works,store and sluice works,engineering running works,communication works and management buildings.
