Touristic destinations are special areas of a typical man-land relationship. Tourism has become the largest cause of population movement in modern society. As an important new development force, tourism is irreversibly changing the evolution process of spatial settlement. In touristic destinations, competition between the different stakeholders vying for access to scarce resources of settlement space is causing issues of land resources use, environmental change, and social justice throughout the development of human settlement. The phenomenon of settlement in touristic destinations constitutes a crucial area of study. Settlement research has become an academic focus. Settlements research is also the basis for implementation of residential fairness, as well as sustainable policies and measures in touristic destinations. As an overview of related research literature on domestic and international settlement space in touristic destination, this paper reviews the spatial settlement process, along with theoretical explanations of driving mechanisms, the main driving mechanism and social effect in touristic destination. A double phenomenon of external expansion and internal restructuring takes place during the process of spatial settlement in touristic destinations, demonstrating the transition process from the non-travel function to the tourism function, the spatial differentiation settlement pattern of different users' spatial choice and social spatial differentiation, among other characteristics. The theories of counter-urbanization, touristic urbanization, and mobility transition provide important theoretical explanations for the reconstruction of settlement systems in touristic destinations. The main driving mechanism informing the settlement phenomenon in touristic destinations depends on natural and socio-economic conditions. Among them, touristic elements play an important role. Tourism affects the social, economic and spatial characteristics of settlement systems in touristic destinations. It is the main driv
