Golden section approach is an optimization method for one dimension space. By correlating golden section sequence and volume fraction of raw materials used, friction material formulations can be designed and calcula- ted. The optimized formulation can be obtained by three phases： （1） effect of each ingredient on friction performance, （2） optimization of volume fraction of fibers group and fillers group, （3） optimization of volume fraction of binders group.
