The south path (20°N - 33°N, 97vE - 118°E) of the West-East Power Transfer Project with Guizhou Province as the central area was studied, and the pollution levels of PM10 in 2004 (current year) and 2010 (planning year) were respectively simulated and forecasted. The spatial distribution characteristics of PM10pollution during the two periods of current year and planning year were described, and the main causes of PM10 pollution pointed out, based on comparison of the contribution of virgin and secondary particles. The forecasting result suggests that PM10 pollution in Guizhou Province is mainly caused by secondary particles which are mainly sulfates transformed by sulfur dioxide. Therefore, as for thermal power projects under planned in Guizhou Province, it is necessary to start with emission reduction of sulfur dioxide in order to alleviate PM10 pollution.
