Heterogeneous nucleation is a well-known method to lower the energy harrier of nucleation, which makes it easier to achieve crystallization than homogeneous nucleation. With the increasing need for protein structure analysis, this method has become a hot issue in the field of protein crystallographers. The progresses that have been made by using this method are reviewed, and the future prospect of this method is discussed.
