To obtain the high quality of A356 castings, the quenched microstructure of the alloy under different superheat temperatures was investigated. On this basis, a process of superheat treatment of liquid melt was proposed to refine the microstructure and eliminate the shrinkage porosity defects in the alloy. As a final result, the mechanical properties of the alloy are obviously improved.
