In order to achieve up to 1 Gbit/s peak data rate, 3GPP LTE Release 10 has introduced carrier aggregation (CA) to scale the system bandwidth up to 100 MHz as discussed elsewhere. Besides, the developments of cognitive radio (CR) will support various emerging applications. For example, public safety, smart grid, broadband cellular and so forth. So the effective combina- tion of the carrier aggregation technology and cognitive radio technology is presented. The carrier aggregation technology is used to aggregate the free spectrum detected by cognitive radio technology.
