Seahorse is one of the famous marine Chinese herbal medicines with immunoregulatory, anti-virus and anti-oxidant functions. The Seahorse is safe and non-poisonous and has excellent development prospects. Recent research progress in the chemical composition and contents, bioactivity and extraction of Seahorse and the effect of traditional Chinese medicine processing on it were reviewed. Besides, further prospects for exploitation of Seahorse were probed.
