Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)is a genetic-environmental-metabolic stress related disease, with its pathogenesis not completely elucidated. There are consistent evidences that mitochondrial dysfunction plays a central role in it.Mitochondria are the mainly energy producer for liver metabolism. With Mitochondrial dysfunction, the fluidity of the mitochondrial membrane decreases, which lead to liver fat accumulation and disease progression to non-alcoholic steatohepatitis and liver cirrhosis. In this review we briefly recall the role of mitochondrial membrane fluidity in the pathophysiology of not-alcoholic fatty liver disease progression.
