The paper is based on Leavitt’s organizational change model. By comparing mass production with lean production in four aspects of organizational change including organizational structure,task,people and technology,the paper discusses the conceptual definition and main components of lean production practices. Combined with the system concept,the paper constructs the model of relationship between lean production practices and firm performance to lay the foundation for further empirical research.
