Citizenization of urban floating population is one of the key issues in China's"New Urbanization"policy. In this paper, spatial database of floating population for 656 cities in China is constructed based on the sixth census data. Then, the spatial pattern for both absolute scale and relative scale of urban floating population in China is identified from multidimensional perspectives, which are administrative hierarchy, scale level, Hu line, four economic regions and urban agglomerations. Finally, the cities are divided into five grades and seven sub-grades based on citizenization pressure. The results are showed as follows:(1) Floating population prefer gathering in those big cities, with a polarization distribution characteristic. Those high- grade cities usually have the advantage in both absolute scale and relative scale of floating population.(2) Those cities which have the advantage in absolute scale of floating population are mainly distributed in southeastern area in China. While those cities that have the advantage in relative scale of floating population are sparsely distributed in both western and southeastern area in China.(3) There are only a small amount of cities face high citizenization pressure. Most of cities don't have such high pressure. 8 cities face highest citizenization pressure which are mainly distributed in southeastern area in China, especially in the Pearl River delta urban agglomeration.(4) Those cities with high citizenization pressure should enhance the financial investment and allocation of public service. And floating population should be encouraged to move to those middle small cities in northeastern and middle area in China to transfer citizenization pressure.
