Product service system (PSS) could be categorized into product-oriented PSS, solution-oriented PSS,apply-oriented PSS and utility-oriented PSS. Then, the characteristics of each kind of PSS and the shift between them were discussed. Why producer service acts as the intermediate goods among different companies and why a company outsources its business processes were analyzed from the view of economics. Finally, service-oriented manufacturing was summarized from the perspectives of business model, industry insight and technology strength (BIT).
