The present research on grain refinement of magnesium alloys is generally reviewed. The as-cast grain refinement technologies of magnesium alloys consist of additions of carbon inoculation, Ti, B refinement agents, alkali metal, carbon subgroup, nitrogen subgroup, rare-earth subgroup and quasicrystal alloys. In order to supply references for research on grain refinement of magnesium alloys, the research status and development of these as-cast grain refinement technologies of magnesium alloys are reviewed, and the refinement mechanisms of these different refinement methods are analyzed emphatically.
