This paper reported the geochemical characteristics of platinum-group elements(PGE) for the Mid-Permian marie volcanic rocks of Santanghu area, Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region,North China. The PGE contents of the samples are determined by nickel sulfide fire assay preparation and inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry(ICP-MS) analysis. The total PGE contents of the samples are low and their primitive mantle normalized PGE curves are left-inclined with variable positive Pt anomalies. The samples show a decrease trend in PGE contents with magmatic evolution. The Pd/Ir ratios(5.8-- 15.5), Cu/Pd ratios(236 X 10^3 -- 1 790 X 10), Pd/Ir vs. Ni/Cu plotting, and major element geochemistry suggest that the volcanic rocks had high MgO and undepleted PGE contents. The primary melts had experienced sulfide segregation in magma chamber, and the continental input was the main factor leading to sulfur sat uration and sulfide segregation. The samples" PGE shows a positively intra-correlation,indicating that the post segregation residual magmas in deep crust experienced a further sulfide fractionation and negative Pd/Ir vs. Ni/Cu correlation indicates a coupled olivine fractionation. The Santanghu mid-Permian strata have a poor PGE metallo genic prospect because PGE had segregated with sulfide for primitive magmas in chamber.
