Magnetoelectric material is a new type of functional material, which is possessed of magnetoelectric effect and wide applications, The paper illustrates the mechanism of the magnetoelectric effect briefly, and systematically introduces the progress and current status of the research of magnetoelectric materials in the world as well as their classification. Finally, the anticipated applications of the material are analyzed in this paper.
