Taking hot die steel with carbon as research object, the effects of carbon content on the microstructure and mechanical properties of the steel were investigated. The results show that there is obviously change which could be separated from chipping area and unchipping area. The EDS shows that there are oxide materials over the wear area, which can improve the wear property of steel. The wear rate decreases drastically with carbon content increasing, while the hardness displays different trends at different tempering temperatures.
