The flavonoid-rich fraction and phenolic acid-rich fraction were extracted from llex hainanensis Merr. by reflux with 80% ethanol and then isolated by HPD-400 resin, The contents of total flavonoid, total phenolic acid and the main constituents in the two fractions were measured using UV-Vis and HPLC methods. The effects of the two fractions on non-alcoholic fatty liver disease in rats were investigated and the results revealed that both the two fractions showed significant effects in reducing liver index, plasma levels of cholesterol, triglyceride and transaminase, and attenuating steatosis in rats with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.
