There are many methods for the surface modification of polymer. As for PE, PS, PC and PMMA, there are solution disposing, low temperature plasma disposing, surface grafting, ion implantation and a novel method of the scratching with tip oscillation of an AFM. The former ones are involved in chemical reactions and result in a new polar surface that is firmly combined to the bulk material; the last one is just a simple physical proeess, but the areas to be modified could be well controlled, which may be very important to the improvement of the surface micro-lubrication.
