Building a joint coordinate system (JCS) is very important in the kinematic and dynamic analysis of haman movement. At present, most of the methods on definiting human JCS are for the clinical application, so they require professional anatomical knowledge and have poor operability. First we introduced the major anatomical landmarks and JCS for hip, knee and ankle. During the discussion, we also found the principles on definitions of JCS for human. Then we obtained the data of the lower limb motion of the volunteer in gait by motion capture system. Analyzing the results, we found that the relative positions of the landmarks which were used to construct JCS did not change much during the movement. That means the method on definitions of JCS in this article was reasonable at a certain range.
