Equally partition of sister chromatids into two daughter cells in mitosis is a key event to maintain the genomic stability of organisms. Faithful mitotic progression is ensured by many regulatory mechanisms, especially the multiple mitotic kinases. Aurora B is one of the master kinases of mitosis. Consistent with its dynamical distributions on chromosome arm, inner centromere, central spindle and midbody, Aurora B regu- lates multiple events including sister-chromatid cohesion, kinetochore-microtubule attachment, spindle assem- bly checkpoint and cytokinesis. We have reviewed the recent research progress of the function and regulation of Aurora B kinase.
