The production of dimethylsulfide (DMS) and dimethylsulfoniopropionate (DMSP) by Phaeo- cystis globosa was studied under different N/P ratios (0 : 1, 5 : 1, 20 : 1, 50 : 1) and concentrations of iron (0, 100, 1 000 nmol . L^-1) in this article. The concentrations of DMS and DMSP in phosphorus-replete (36.12 μmol . L^-1) cultures were significantly higher than those in phosphorus-deplete (0. 361 2 μmol. L^-1) cultures. DMS and DMSP concentrations in the cultures with N/P=50 : 1 were higher than those in other N/P ratios (0 : 1, 5 : 1, 20 : 1), but DMS and DMSP concentrations per unit Chl-a (chlo- rophyll a) were the lowest at N/P=50 ~ 1. The maximum concentrations of DMS and DMSP in low-phos- phorus (0. 361 2 μmol . L^-2) cultures with N/P of 0: 1 were significantly higher than those in other N/P ratios (5 : 1, 20 : 1, 50 : 1), The release of DMS reached maximum in the cultures of N/P=50 : 1. Low concentrations of iron was favorable to production of DMSPd, and DMSPp concentrations per unit Chl-a was minimum at iron concentrations of 1 000 nmol : L^-1 while production capacity of DMS per unit Chl-a was enhanced at iron concentrations of 100 nmol . L^-1
