The state of polarization is described by a stokes vector. Every optical element can be represented uniquely by a Mueller matrix. Based on the axial symmetry of the system, a simple explanation of the Mueller matrix patterns was presented. The calculations of the Mueller matrix was compared with measurements from a turbid medium that consisted of polystyrene spheres. The result showed that the backscattering Mueller matrix patterns were similar for different sizes and concentrations of the polystyrene spheres. To differentiate the turbid medium ; we must carefully study the variances of the intensity with radiance of the backscattering Mueller matrix patterns.
