The transmission spectrum of the Fabry- Pe' rot interferometer is achieved basing on the theory of passive optical resonators. When the cavity loss is sufficiently small,the transmission spectrum can be considered as a series of independent transmission peaks which have Lorentzian line- shape. This method may offer a new thought of understanding the operating principle of the Fabry- Pe'rot interferometer.
