Two binuclear complexes, [Zn2 (py)2 (L)2]and [Cu2 (py)2 (L)2] (py= pyridine, H2L = N- (2-hydroxybenzyl) salicylaldimine), have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, UV, IR spectroscopy and fluorescence spectra. The crystal structure of complexes was determined by X-ray diffraction analysis. The crystal of [Zn2 (Py)2 (L)2] is monoclinic with space group P2(1)/c and crystal parameters of a=1. 014 5 nm, b=1. 380 6 nm, c= 1. 267 1 nm, β=102. 063°, V=1.735 5 nm^3, Z=2, F(000)=760, /1=1.43 mm^-1, R1= 0. 036 1 and wR2=0. 084 0. The coordination of Zn( Ⅱ ) atom is a distorted trigonal bipyramid. The crystal of [Cu2(py)2 (L)2] is monoclinic with space group P2(1)/n and crystal parameters of a= 0. 821 06 nm, b=1. 071 5 nm, c=1. 786 4 nm, β=99. 365°, V= 1. 550 7 nm^3, Z=2, F (000)=756, μ=1. 422 mm^-1, R1=0. 038 6, wR2=0. 0746. The coordination of Cu( Ⅱ ) atom is a distorted square pyramid.
