Profilin is one of the most important actin-binding proteins. It regulates actin polymerization and interacts with many cytoskeletal proteins. Herein, the structure characterizations, distributions and functions of the profilin family were reviewed, and the mechanisms in the regulation of actin dynamics were discussed. Finally, the deficiency in the research on the dynamics of profilin was pointed out.
