The characteristics, application status and problems that tools encountered in machining are introduced. From the tool wear mechanism （ tool materials, cutting parameters, cooling and milling mode） and tool wear monitoring,the progresses in recent years of tool wear of high-speed milling difficult-to-cut materials are reviewed,and the research trends are discussed.
