The novel Er^3+ single-doped and Er^3+/Yb^3+ co-doped Bi2O3-B2O3-Ga2O3 glasses are prepared. The effect of Yb2O3 concentration on absorption spectra and emission spectra of glasses are measured and investigated. The stimulated emission cross-sections of the ^4I13/2→^4I15/2 transition of Er^3+ are calculated using the McCumber theory. The results indicate that the emission intensity, fluorescence full width at half maximum (FWHM) and the peak value of stimulated emission cross-section (σe^peak) all reaches a peak value when Yb^3+/Er^3+ concentration ratio is 4/1, and the max FWHM and σe^peak is 77 nm and 1.08 ×^-20 cm^2, respectively.
