Transcription factor Sox2 is a member of Sox gene family.It gains general attention according to the key role in various important developmental events,such as early embryogenesis,neural differentiation,inner ear development and so on.The mammalian inner ear is composed of six functionally and morphologically distinct sensory regions,which are required for sound and vestibular information transduction.And Sox2 is required for the early development of inner ear cells in the develop process of the sensory regions.In this review,we focus on the Sox2 gene＇s role in inner ear development.
