Color is an important factor that influences the appearance quality of plants and their commodity value. Current studies on plant color are mainly focused on the physiological, biochemical and transcription level, while the post-transcrip-tional level is rarely reported. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are short regulatory non-coding RNAs that guide gene silencing in most eukaryotes. They regulate gene expression by triggering sequence-specific cleavage or translational repression of target tran-scripts. This review briefly describes the mechanism of miRNA, and summarizes the advances on miRNAs in plant colors regulation, which would lay the foundation for the regulation of plant color in the post-transcriptional level.
