Using the data from the survey on rural migrant workers conducted in Shenzhen by Institute for Population and Development Studies of Xi'an Jiaotong University in 2005, this paper analyzes current situation and determinants of rural migrant workers' social support networks, in which quantitative and qualitative features are measured by the size of network and the item whether there is a weak tie respectively. The results show that, after migration, the size of social support network becomes smaller significantly, and strong ties dominate. The analysis of determinants reveals that economic status affects both quantitative and qualitative features ; factors of the experience nature such as experiences in migration and job - changing affect the quantitative feature of the support network for rural migrant workers; individual attributes of rural migrant workers, situation of human capital, acquired study capability and adaptability have significant impact on the qualitative feature of the social supporting network.
