英文摘要：

The map data can be updated using the new data at larger scale based on automated generalization method. For developing the software of this updating way, the classification and applicability of updating modes are investigated firstly. According to the objects generalization and data update,four modes are presented, i. e. a） generalization and substitute, b） integrating the result of generalization and the old map, c） incremental generalization for updating, d） overlapping the new and old data and generalization for updating. The mode of the last one is applicable considering the current status of map automated generalization and the management of maps with different scales. Based on this mode, the process of updating road data is proposed, and the software module is developed, which applied to update road data in 1：50 000 map from 1：10 000 road data. The case verifies this mode is practical.
