Starting from the 1^st law of thermodynamics, and making use of Peng-Robinson equations to serve as the basic equations for representing the properties of ammonia-water mixtures, a thermodynamic analysis of a stair distillation Kalina cycle is being presented. A program for calculating the thermodynamic properties of ammonia-water mixtures, and another for calculating the performance of Kalina cycles, have been composed, with which the heat-work conversion particulars of Kalina cycles have been theoretically calculated, and the influence on cycle property of critical parameters, like the pressure and temperature at turbine' s entrance, the turbine' s back pressure, the concentration of the working solution and that of the basic solution as well as the cycle's mass ratio, analyzed.
