Based on many previous research achievements, drilling and seismic data, tectonic evolution and sedimentary filling of Wan'an basin are studied, especially focusing on hydrocarbon geological characteristic of source rocks, reservoirs, traps, and accumulation conditions. Results show that Wan'an basin experiences three tectonic evolution stages in the tectonic cycle of Neo-South China Sea(SCS):Oligocene—Early Miocene extensional fault-depression stage, Middle Miocene strike-slip reformation stage, and Late Miocene—Quaternary regional susidence stage, in which delta and semi-enclosed bay sedimentary systems develop in Late Oligocene—Early Miocene, delta and open sea sedimentary systems develop in Middle Miocene—Quaternary. Two sets of Oligocene and Lower Miocene main hydrocarbon source rocks, two main reservoirs of Oligocene—Miocene clastic rocks and Miocene carbonate rocks, the local cap in the inner layer of Oligocene—Miocene and Pliocene—Quaternary regional cap develop in Wan'an basin. Two reservoir types of reef and structure develop with the characteristics of lower-generation and upper-preserving, and self-generation and self-preserving. Wan'an basin's hydrocarbon accumulation is affected by the tectonic cycle of Neo-SCS significantly, in which extensional fault-depression stage controls main source rocks(mainly in North and Central depressions)and sandstone reservoir and structural traps in western Wan'an basin, strike-slip reformation stage controls carbonate reservoirs and carbonate buildups in eastern wan'an basin, while deep faults formed in this stage connect the deep source rocks.
