Objective To compare the activated expression of CD27 in inflamed and non-inflamed tissues of intestinal mucosa in patients with inflammatory bowel disease and in normal tissues of intestinal mucosa in healthy controls,and to discuss the role of CD27 activation in pathogenesis of inflammatory bowel disease.Methods A total of 32 patients with Crohn＇s disease,41 patients with ulcerative colitis and 40 healthy controls were enrolled.Western blot and SYBR-green real time PCR were applied to evaluate expression of CD27 protein and mRNA in inflamed and non-inflamed tissues of intestinal mucosa in patients with inflammatory bowel disease and in normal tissues of intestinal mucosa in healthy controls, respectively.Data were analyzed using GraphPad Prism 5.Results Expression of CD27 protein and mRNA were significantly higher in inflamed tissues of intestinal mucosa in patients with Crohn＇s disease and ulcerative colitis than those in non-inflamed tissues of Crohn＇s disease,ulcerative colitis and healthy controls（P0.01）.Moreover,expression of CD27 protein and mRNA were significantly higher in non-inflamed tissues of intestinal mucosa in patients with Crohn＇s disease than those in normal intestinal tissues of healthy controls（P=0.000）.The expression of CD27 protein was significantly higher in non-inflamed tissues of intestinal mucosa in patients with ulcerative colitis than that in normal intestinal tissues of healthy controls（P=0.000）.Conclusion Activated expression of CD27 exists in intestinal mucosa in patients with inflammatory bowel disease.Such activation emerges not only in inflamed tissues of intestinal mucosa in patients with inflammatory bowel disease,but also in non-inflamed tissues.Thus,activated expression of CD27 is an early event in pathogenesis of inflammatory bowel disease.
