With the development of computer, communication, and information technologies, the great potential of using these new technologies to accomplish high-speed data collection, data processing, and workload reducing is being recognized. As a kind of new timing, measuring distance, navigation and positioning system, the technology of GPS is gradually used in military, traffic and other fields. Aiming at the hot issue of research that how to effectively combine GPS technology with modern computer science to realize rapid and precise position, the paper analyses the data formats and information construction of NMEA-0183 sentence. It also introduces the characteristics of GPS-OEM board, especially introduces the key-arithmetic of serial communication between GPS-OEM board and Personal Computer based on vc + +. Then, it realizes the serial communication between GPS-OEM board and Personal Computer. The study is widly applied in navigation and position system by GPS.
