This paper reviews the rover localization methods for Spirit and Opportunity rovers of the Mars Exploration Rover mission, including radio tracking, dead reckoning, sun sensor for ab solute heading determination, visual odometry, bundle adjustment of rover image network, and comparison of rover and high-resolution satellite images. The application scopes, accuracies and development potentials of these methods are analyzed, which can be used as a reference for rover localization in the future lunar and Mars rover missions.
